Energy Performance Contracting

Energy-as-a-service (EaaS) is a sustainable and hassle-free approach to energy from biomass.

Our mission is to provide clients with efficient, biomass-based energy solutions that contribute to sustainable development and carbon neutrality.

Why Transition Now?

As climate-related pressures rise, moving away from fossil fuels isn’t just an environmental choice—it’s a competitive necessity. SENECA helps you reduce your carbon footprint while ensuring cost stability in an unpredictable energy market.

Key Benefits

Cost Stability

Hedge against fossil fuel price volatility.

Energy Security

Supply of local biomass (<100km) hedges against imported fossil fuels.

Regulatory Compliance

Meet strict environmental demands.

Competitive Edge

Lead your market in sustainability.

The SENECA approach: Energy-as-a-service (EaaS)

SENECA’s “Energy-as-a-service” is a new approach that helps you secure sustainable energy from biomass pyrolysis, while minimising all technological, bureaucratic and feedstock-related burdens and risks (only suitable, locally available biomass will be used).

What You Do

  1. Sign a fixed-term contract and settle monthly payments for heat consumed.
  2. Focus on your core business while we handle the rest.

What SENECA Delivers

Carbon Credits

The Value

Verified EBC-standard carbon sequestration that supports your carbon neutrality goals.

Pyrolysis: one process, three sustainable benefits

Biochar

Biochar is a carbon-rich material produced through biomass pyrolysis. When added to soil, biochar improves water retention, nutrient availability and supports microbial activity, making it valuable for agriculture and GHG emmission mitigation. Additionally biochar shows multiple useful applications, for more information (Ithaka center link).

Green Heat

This process generates useful heat for the industry or building heating. Unlike fossil fuels, biomass heat is considered green because the carbon released is balanced by the carbon absorbed originally by the plants, making it part of a natural cycle. Additionally, biochar from the process stores carbon.
EaaS Landing

Carbon Credits

Pyrolysis converts biomass into biochar, which locks carbon in a stable, solid form, preventing it from being released back into the atmosphere as CO2 and providing a permanent carbon sink. Through carbon sequestration, SENECA generates EBC carbon credits, supporting efforts to reduce overall emissions and promote sustainable practices.

Why Pyrolysis?

Pyrolysis of biomass is a process where organic material is heated in the absence of oxygen above 400°C, causing it to split into biochar and energy-rich vapours. In SENECA’s process, the pyrolysis vapours enter a combustion chamber to deliver useful heat at high temperature (approx. 800°C). Optionally, the delivered heat can be transformed into electricity, mechanical energy or cold.

Key Advantages of Pyrolysis

Circular Economy and Waste Reduction

SENECA is strictly committed to only use biomass residues without indirect land use change (iLUC) issues as feedstock for energy generation. The use of biomass residues enhances local rural economies, delivers valuable products (biochar) in a circular, climate friendly manner.
EaaS Landing

Sustainable and Flexible Energy Production of Green Heat

The heat transfer media can be optimally adapted to the client´s needs for example through hot water, steam, hot air or thermal oil.

Carbon Sequestration

Biochar produced through pyrolysis is a long-term stable carbon storage. The biochar produced by the selected SENECA pyrolysis technologies are proven to comply with the European Carbon Certificate (EBC) standards.

Additional Revenue

Biochar can be used as soil amendment, fertiliser additive, construction materials, among other commercial applications. EaaS Landing
